Thank You, Paid Subscribers! Your paid subscription is Making a Difference… for UNICEF and Feeding America.
During the holiday season, I am especially grateful for all my subscribers. Last week, the newsletter “Holiday Gifting Guide, Wine-Style 2024” received the most “views” in the 3-year history of Wine Wanderings.
“I have pledged to you that 10% of your paid subscription would go annually to UNICEF and Feeding America. Due to your generosity and support in 2024 the donations have been submitted to both UNICEF and Feeding America this week just in time to meet 2024 food insecurity needs both Internationally and in the US. These two charities are ranked as the most efficiently run and effective in reaching children in need.” – Tricia Conover, DipWSET, Editor

“Hunger numbers stubbornly high for three consecutive years as global crises deepen: UN Report. 1 in 11 people worldwide faced hunger in 2023, 1 in 5 in Africa,” – UNICEF press release, July 24, 20204
UNICEF Facts
· UNICEF helped 2.6 billion people access safe drinking water since 1990.
· UNICEF helped slash child mortality rates by more than half since 1990 saving 122 million children’s lives.
· In 2023, UNICEF and their partners reached 9.3 million children with life-saving treatment for “severe wasting” – helping to turn the tide against the global malnutrition crisis.
Facts About Hunger in America
According to the USDA, more than 44 million people, including 9 million children, in the United States are food insecure.
Every community in the country is home to families who face hunger. But rural communities are especially hard hit by hunger with 1 in 5 children food insecure.
49 million people turned to food programs in 2022
Many households that experience food insecurity do not qualify for federal nutrition programs and visit their local food banks and other food programs for extra support.
Hunger in African American, Latino, and Native American communities is higher because of systemic racial injustice. To achieve a hunger-free America, we must address the root causes of hunger, both structural and systemic inequities.
